Be the Lit Match

Jun 4, 2022

This is the second article from the Master Qigong Class. As you read this, you’ll notice there are links to articles I have previously written if you desire more insights.

Also, the first article is Expanding Your View.

In order to light an unlit match, a lit match is needed. And, when you bring the two close together, they light. This is Qigong.

When my Sifu was studying with Master John Gaines he reminded him, “In order to really understand Qigong, there has to be a direct transmission.” Meaning we cannot get it through videotape, Instagram, Facebook, YouTube, etc.

These platforms are great because seeds are continuing to be planted with what was once considered counter-culture, and now is becoming accepted through mainstream media. Therefore any transmission of knowledge and wisdom is through direct experience, and occurs from one to the next, when we are ready.

The question to ask ourselves is are we ready to change … and willing to do it now?

Or are we too busy to change? We cannot change if we are always running around on our hamster wheel going nowhere. Maybe you’re wishing you were somewhere else other than where you are? If so, consider you may be disconnected from change.

Qigong doesn’t require movement although we know it facilitates the connection. When practicing we become aware of where we are… we learn how to use our breath as a bridge to connect the mind and body. But have you wondered about our greatest connection? We all posses it— it’s our jewel.

Qigong is more than slow movements, opening our awareness and connecting with our breath. It facilitates the opening our hearts [the jewel] … that is where the fullness of life exists.

Where is your heart?

What is important to you? I invite you to ponder and feel into this question, maybe write a few things down in your journal, or share it with us in the comments below.

For me, it’s believing every soul is doing their best, whether I agree with them or not, expanding my lens of perception.

  • May we all live with loving-kindness and compassion.
  • May we engage in an act of kindness everyday.
  • May we all recognize our spiritual intelligence that lies deep within and knows.
  • May we listen to our hearts.

What is the deeper practice of Qigong?
To elevate and transcend the ordinary-ness and become the extraordinary human beings we already are. And, it doesn’t mean we need to do anything special.

  • Simply engage in art of conversation, which is being lost.
  • Compliment others.
  • Open the door for someone.
  • Say thank you.
  • Give of your time.
  • Connect with nature.
  • Simply BE a kind human being.

My deepest wish… that we can be the lit match wherever we reside in this world. Imagine what our world would look like then.
