Peace Within Creates Peace Without

Apr 28, 2026

With all that has been happening outside of ourselves in these present days, my teacher reminds us, “The best thing we can do is to create peace within.”

You may find yourself wondering, But how can I? The world feels heavy. Someone you love may be struggling. Life may feel uncertain.

Maybe the question gently shifts to, How can you not?

We cannot truly support others if we are not tending to ourselves first. And what greater gift can we offer a friend, a family member, or even a stranger, than our presence rooted in peace— a place where compassion and empathy arise naturally.

As it is written in the Taoist tradition, “If you want to awaken all of humanity, then awaken all of yourself.”

So how do we begin?

By practicing to BE—to Breathe and Expand—with what is here now. Instead of reaching into the future with worry, we soften into this moment and expand our awareness toward what is already peaceful.

Perhaps it’s the sound of a bird just outside.
The quiet kindness between strangers.
The movement of clouds across the sky.
The simple nourishment of your next breath.

Yes, there is darkness in the world. And there is also light. One does not exist without the other.

Like the yin-yang, not as a flat image, but as a living sphere—turning, shifting, always in motion. Just like us.

Another gentle reminder from the Tao: “Do you have the patience to wait until your mud settles and the water is clear?”

I smile as I hear Sifu’s voice echo within— If your life feels good right now, give thanks… it will change.
And if your life feels difficult (or even unbearable), give thanks… it will change.

Everything changes. Our bodies, our thoughts, our truths.

So let us meet each breath with gratitude.
Inhale fully.
Exhale peace.

And in doing so, may we continue this quiet, beautiful circle of life.
